Keep an Eye Out for the Best Glasses for You

October 25, 2021

Most folks think of their prescription glasses to be a fashion statement and a reflection of their personal style. And at the same time, some people don eyewear with non-prescription lenses for practical purposes. Reasons for needing eyewear vary, but their two ultimate purposes are the same: to improve your vision and protect your eyes from harm. Optometrists are America’s primary eye health care providers as well as at the frontline of eye and vision care.

The optometrists at the office of Optical Outlets use state-of-the-art knowledge and technology to offer a complete array of services with the utmost care and precision. Our whole team—from the specialists to the support associates—are friendly, highly trained specialists who are eager to help you feel comfortable and relaxed while receiving the very best in vision care.

The next time you’re in the market for new eyewear, here’s a guide for vision, sport and fashion.

Thin is in. If your prescription is strong and requires thick, heavy lenses, ask your optometrist about high-index lenses. They’re thinner and weigh less than conventional lenses. Also ask about aspheric lenses, which have thin sides. High-indexes and aspherics can help cut down on the bulkiness, weight and unbecoming shape.

Get creative. Show off your inventive fashion essence with noteworthy frames made or metal or plastic and in atypical colors and distinctive shapes. Consider geometric contours, multi-hued laminates, animal and flower prints and details carved out with lasers. Vintage frames are back in vogue. Think aviators, cat’s-eyes and 1960s mod.

Risky business. Anyone who plays racquetball or squash knows that the ball travels between 100 and 150 miles per hour. Other sports that are dangerous to your eyes include basketball, lacrosse, field hockey, platform tennis and baseball. Get sports frames with polycarbonate plastic lenses. They’re 10 times more durable than other materials and could save your eyesight.

Up your games using colors. If you sport sunglasses while engaging in sports, yellow and green lenses could improve your performance. Yellow lenses assist in low light or haze, as it produces a sharper image. Skiers, snowboarders, cyclists and people who play indoor sports appreciate them. Go green when you want to heighten contrast and preserve the balance of colors while playing baseball, golf and other sports on grass fields.
